Wyatt Erber of Edwardsville, Illinois told his mom, Noelle, that he would like to enter the summer-long scavenger hunt in his town so that he could win the $1,000 prize money to help pay for the treatment of his friend’s 2-year-old sister, Cara Kielty who has leukemia.
In late August, Erber learned that he had won the contest and the prize money. Immediately, Erber called Cara’s mom, Trisha, and told her that he had won and would like to give them the prize money.
The scavenger hunt for the $1,000 prize involved finding clues at local businesses all summer long. Wyatt never gave up his quest for that prize money. When asked why he kept at it so hard, he simply answered, “I thought this would help them buy medicine for Cara.”
