Local man asks neighbors to perform random acts of kindness

Brett Sturgill is a man on a mission.

The lifelong Shelbyville resident is on a mission to not only complete numerous random acts of kindness, he wants his fellow neighbors to do the same in honor of Emily Grace Gutreuter, who died at the age of 2 in her sleep in 2005.

Her family started Random Acts of Kindness Day, encouraging others to help strangers in her name, and that is where Sturgill’s mission begins.

“First and foremost, we want to help spread the word that any act of kindness is important. There is so much hurt and suffering in the world. If you perform just one act of kindness every day, you can change 365 lives a year,” Sturgill said.
